Rush Info
Every Fall semester, Sigma Phi Omega hosts a series of fun and informal events around campus, often referred to as "Rush" events. They are free and open to anyone curious about what our sorority has to offer. Below are some commonly asked questions about Rush, along with our answers. What is rush?
Rush is a week filled with exciting events that fraternities and sororities host to introduce you to their organization and members. It gives you an opportunity to check out what we're all about and to decide if being a member is for you. There is no obligation to join and food and transportation are always provided.
Do I have to attend every Rush?
No, but it is encouraged. This will give us a chance to get to know you and for you to get to know us.
What if I cannot attend a rush event?
It is important that you attempt to be present to at least one rush event. However, if you cannot, please feel free to contact us.
Can I rush during the Spring semester?
We do not conduct a Spring rush because we want each of our new members in the Fall to get the full experience of our program and at the same time to have more personal time such as school, work, family, etc. However, we do encourage you to come out to our rush the following Fall semester.
What is orientation period?
Orientation period is full of activities designed to learn about our sorority history, traditions, and line sisters as well as the rest of the sisters.
What is the time commitment?
It is often said that how much you get out of an experience is directly related to how much you put into it. Nevertheless, we understand that you are here at San Diego State University to learn and we will never ask you to place the sorority above academics or anything else that is important to you. School should come first above everything else because after all, you are here for an education.
I'm still not sure which sorority is right for me.
We encourage you to explore all opportunities, including the other two Asian sororities in San Diego State University. Evaluating the numerous options available will allow you to choose the organization that you feel the most pride and comfort being a member of.
What makes you different from other sororities?
We are the oldest Asian-American Interest sorority to be established in San Diego. Our founding chapter was established in the University of Southern California in 1949, making us also the 3rd oldest Asian sorority in the nation.
